Ancient DOS Games --- Episode 9

MegaRace

Additional Information and Corrections:

  • Here's a quick link for anyone who wants to purchase MegaRace and MegaRace 2 together for a mere $6: http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/megarace_1_2

  • The game is also available on its own on the Zoom Platform for $3, just in case you have no interest in MegaRace 2: https://www.zoom-platform.com/#store-megarace1

  • Had a slip of the tongue I missed during recording. I meant to say that the Lance Boyle character wasn't "that" good in MegaRace 2 and 3, rather than saying he wasn't "as" good, but hopefully I didn't confuse anyone too badly there. Still, I caught it while editing and rendered in a correction in the video itself. ;)

  • One thing I didn't mention is that the game's controls are extremely simple and can be configured in-game so DOSBox's keymapper will be left on the side-lines this time through. Ah well.

  • One other fun factoid is that this game was frequently bundled with Packard Bell computers when it came out, since Packard Bell loved including FMV-type things to showcase having CD-ROM drives in their systems. (This is how I got my copy.) The funny part of this is that MegaRace wasn't fully compatible with Packard Bell systems and occasionally froze up on them. There's even a note about this in the MegaRace manual. Brilliant. ;D
