Ancient DOS Games --- Episode 148

Jetpack

Additional Information and Corrections:

  • Here's a link to the page on the Adept Software website with Jetpack on it: http://www.adeptsoftware.com/jetpack

  • Here's also a link to the Jetpack HQ where you can play the open beta for Jetpack 2 in your browser: http://www.jetpackhq.com

  • I didn't talk about most of the mechanics of the game elements because most of them are pretty basic, including spikes to avoid, coloured teleporters, forcefields that can be triggered by push-buttons and touchplates, walls you can pass through, and a few other things. I probably should've at least mentioned one aspect of the teleporters though that's extremely handy to know: So long as you're sparkling from the teleportation effect, you're invulnerable, so take advantage of that brief moment of imperviousness!

  • You can also select which level to start the game from as multiples of 10, or you can have the game select a completely random level to start you on.

  • I know in the footage it looks like I'm making it through the one-tile-wide gaps just fine, but those were my best attempts. I would've visually shown some more frustrating aspects of the gameplay if it didn't involve seeing bloody messes of pixels from dying every 30 seconds. :P

  • Here's a download link for the level I made in case any of you want to get destroyed by it. Note that it needs to go into a "LEVELS" folder insider the folder you install Jetpack to: ADG01.JET
